Master of Arts in Counseling

Please note that this degree program will be changing over the next few years. Work to enhance and re-envision the program is just beginning. Additional details will be made available in the future. In the interim, we are partnering with Evangelical Seminary for program course offerings. Questions can be directed to the Office of Enrollment Management by emailing admissions@sfseminary.edu

The two-year Master of Arts in Counseling is an integrative academic and clinical program that provides theologically-informed psychological training to prepare students to work in the fields of marriage & family therapy and mental health counseling.  Student learning is guided by mentorship of faculty and enhanced by personal therapy and spiritual direction.  Students will gain knowledge of concepts and practically apply theory and techniques in clinical work with supervision and mentorship.

Upon graduation, students are prepared to pursue licensure to work as qualified therapists and counselors in a variety of settings, including private practice, community mental health agencies, and hospitals as mental health practitioners, as well as schools, chemical dependency agencies, and ministry settings.  The program meets outcome standards set forth by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and MFT and counseling standards.

The program has a strong supervised clinical component.  At our on-site training clinic, students develop their therapy skills while meeting the needs of clients from the community.  Supervision is provided by the licensed mental health professionals at Sioux Falls Psychological Services, a counseling service owned and operated by Sioux Falls Seminary.
